Gamejam game with the prompt: Black & White

PHOTOSENSITIVITY WARNING!! THIS GAME HAS FLASHING AND BRIGHT LIGHTS!!! THIS IS YOUR WARNING!!!

A simplistic platformer revolving around switching gravity and saturation. Navigate the world half-blind and run as fast as you can away from the wall that drowns out all differences. Use your ability to switch gravity and reveal hidden shades, jump and avoid obstacles all whilst maintaining your momentum. Escape to safety!

CONTROLS

  • A and D - Change directions
  • W and S - Jump
  • ENTER or MOUSE1 - Invert world & Flip gravit

Information

Originally, I'd wanted to make procedurally generated levels however I got sick halfway through making it. The game focuses on Movement (WASD) and the sound design (My weakest element).

Really love what you did with the concept! Switching the level layout and gravity mechanics is super cool and it feels pretty good to play! My only criticisms would be maybe add some way to know when you have the ability to switch between black and white. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding, but I found myself constantly clicking and not knowing when or if it would switch which really stopped the momentum and constantly had me dying. It seems like you cant be moving with WSAD and click at the same time? Also you cant switch mid air? Being able to combine moving, jumping, and switching a little more seamlessly would make the game-feel perfect. Let me know if I'm just not understanding the mechanics!

EDIT: okay using enter is WAY more consistent than mouse click, also setting my refresh rate to 60hz helped - @ 165hz polling was inconsistent I guess, maybe just having browser issues

This was a very fun game to play and I felt quite engaged and filled with determination to make it all the way to the end. On top of this I really enjoyed the sounds used as I felt it added a lot of character and flavor to the overall game!

more pls

I love the concept and knowing what inspired it makes it all the more enjoyable of a game/experience! Keep it up!!

Sooo satisfying and polished, was caught offguard by gravity swapping mechanics in a good way. Reminds me of thomas was alone!

Very good concept, Make the players read!

beautiful sound design and super unique mechanics! i'm always very fond of gravity-swapping mechanics and i think taking that type of gameplay & putting it into such a stressful & quick paced game was awesome. i'd be really interested in seeing how you develop this idea further!
